I I I know Luna moths, Alex. They are indeed magnificent. I caught one when I was 10 and living near Washington DC. I was a novice entomologist with my Golden Book of Insects.

I found a large moth here in So Cal once, I think it was a "Death's Head". Not nearly as dream-like as the Luna.

<<It was a Luna moth. >>

I had those when I lived in town. Huge caterpillars. They could devour all the leaves on a limb in a hurry. I kept watch on a cocoon and saw the moth emerge.

>>I had a faint feeling the rest of the night that I'd
had a visitation of sorts.<<

Way cool! So you sort of DID, have a visitation.

Sounds like it was a pretty good trip! Lotsa times those are dogs, and then once in a while they are quite nice insertions. Kind of mythical and magicky. Magic-ee. Magicy?
