your distain for TA

I don't really have a disdain for TA. Some of my best friends are TA's.

Also, some people make a nice living relying solely or mostly on TA. I guess my point is that I think TA hurts as many as it helps. By that, I mean that from what I have noticed on this and other threads, reliance on TA has faked many people out of an up or down swing. I know you use TA as just one tool, and for those who have the discipline to keep that perspective, it may indeed be useful. I just think a lot of people don't really have that discipline, so for them TA is more of a hindrance than a help.

Lastly, I think the TA census doesn't catch a lot of "intuitive" TA-ers. Many people, myself included, make "gut" moves at what we sense are inflection points, although we may not have the academic stuff to back it up. So in that sense, I believe there are many FA types that are closet TA-ers on the side.
