Barb, I don't know if you've checked lately, but the federal coffers are rolling in dough. About a trillion over. It's going to be a major battle in the next US election (Nov 2000) on what to do with ALL THAT EXTRA MONEY. Now where is all this coming from? Right. ST gains. The statistics you've mentioned, 1% at over 50% in tax in the top brackets, is probably older data related to income, not ST cap gains. In other words, there are probably 1% who make 250K salary, but many more whos AGI (which include cap gains) gets near there, or higher with the help of their stock market gains. Steve
