Dave,

re: AMD

We are seeing some more short selling iMHO.

Wouldn't surprise me if the short position in AMD isn't 15M shares by earnings.

Get ready for a rocket ride.

I bought more at 85 1/2.

I am now overextended on AMD.

regards,

Kash

Dave - RE: "Off the top of anyone's head, when did AMD pre-announce the last one or two quarters? Friday is the last trading day of the quarter. Maybe they can crunch their numbers over the weekend and announce something on Monday. Then leave some juicy stuff for the 19th. Could be a massive buying spree and ska-weeeze."

If I remember correctly, the only time in the past couple of years that AMD has officially pre-announced earnings this late in the quarter was one year ago when AMD negatively pre-announced for what seemed like the thousandth time in a few months... They probably did it to let the street know how bad the results would be so they didn't have to digest all of it one one day.

I just checked the late pre-announcements in 99, and AMD negatively pre-announced on June 23, right before the Q2 ended, and did the same April 7, a week after the Q ended. It sure is easier on my stomach to own AMD stock now, compared to the first half of last year...

If AMD didn't positively pre-announce earnings late in Q4 or Q1, when they had REALLY great numbers, I doubt they would do so now. Well, I guess you could count AMD's saying revenue will be higher than $1B one week before Q1 earnings this year, but he just gave revenue projections. But even something like would appease me. Of course, a surprise is fine also. ;)
