Ex-NFL star John Elway files to sell Quepasa.com shares

WASHINGTON, June 26 (Reuters) - Retired Denver Broncos quarterback John Elway filed to sell more than 30,000 common shares of Quepasa.com Inc. <PASA.O>, the Hispanic Internet company currently trading for about $1, well off a 52-week high of $26-14/16.

Elway made a filing on May 10 with the Securities and Exchange Commission to sell 30,133 shares, part of 133,333 shares he privately acquired from the company around Thanksgiving 1998.

His filing was publicly released last week by the SEC.

There was no immediate comment from Phoenix-based Quepasa, which last month announced it hired investment bankers Friedman Billings Ramsey to explore strategic alternatives.

Those options included alliances, significant equity investments in the company, a merger or sale.

Quepasa shares were unchanged in afternoon Nasdaq trading at $1-3/4. They have a 52-week low of $1-3/16.

Elway, who led the Broncos to back-to-back Super Bowl wins in 1998 and 1999, is involved in several business ventures, including mvp.com, an online site for sporting goods and outdoor merchandise whose other backers include Michael Jordan and Wayne Gretzky.
