FBCE.OB [FibreCore] . . . . .I've been looking this over and it appears to be one of the few competitors to Corning [GLW]. Their main production facility is in Jena, Germany. . . where they make the fibre. They own Automated Light Tech. . .which tests fibre optics systems. . . and a fibre optic manufacturing plant in Malaysia [Fibrecore Asia Sdn. Bhd.] Just this month, FBCE bought Xtal Fibras Opticas S.A., a fiber manufacturing facility in Brazil for $25 million [with $30 mil financing by Gruntal in NYC], which is equal to company revenues. . . a steal. Fibrecore plans to double the revenues from the Brazil fibre facility.biz.yahoo.com Also this month TYC [Tyco] converted their initial investment in FBCE into 7.2 million shares of FBCE stock. Sales volume in 1999 was up 123% over 1998 and the company grew in most every way. biz.yahoo.com Company Website: fibercoreusa.com The company has many innovative products that keep them on the cutting edge of the technology as well. FiberCore, in addition to the standard multimode and singlemode fiber that meet the highest industry specifications, also markets product lines of ValuGrade© and EconoGrade© optical fibers. These fibers are available in single-mode and multi-mode designs, and are ideally suited to provide the required bandwidth for Internet, Feeder Loop, Fiber-to-the Curb, (FttC), Fiber-to-the Home (FttH) and Fiber-to-the Desk (FttD) applications. biz.yahoo.com The German manufacturing plant also makes optical preforms. Preforms are the basic component from which optical fiber is drawn and subsequently cabled. The Company has developed a patented preform production process that management believes to be competitive with other existing production methods in use. The only thing that might be of potential concern is why the CFO, Michael Beecher has sold nearly half his share in May of 2000. If he had sold all of his 150k shares or so. . .I'd be concerned. But the guy only makes $85k per year. . . and chances are that FBCE made up the sum total of his stock portfolio. If I were to guess, I'd say his financial advisor advised him to diversify his portfolio by selling off half his FBCE holding and invest across the board. . .which by cashing in. . .he received as much as he would make in 4 years employment. I could find no selling by Beecher at any time except for May, 2000. So this does not bother me. . .unless we find out that his views of the future of the company have changed. . . but I highly doubt that. . . might be worth a call to MA to find out. I am open to any other stocks that are raw fibre manufacturers, like Corning. . . but good luck trying to find them. . . there just aren't many around. Special thanks to the guys on the "Rande Is. . .Raging" thread for digging out FBCE early in the year. ragingbull.com Special thanks to Jurgen over in Europe [on the RB board], Steven Finkle and Redwood for staying with FBCE over the year. Rande Is **Not a recommendation. Do your own DD. . I am long FBCE.
