Jacobs is about the furthest from arrogant as possible. What started Qualcomm's rise? You can argue it was the Ericy agreement but that was just the trigger. The rise was due to Qualcomm's technology and patents. IDC is often portrayed as a "baby Qualcomm" but they sold off any patents they had that may have been worth something, and for a measly 5 million I might add.

We could argue the '94 agreement till you are blue in the face but I don't think I will be able to change your fervent beliefs. Maybe when the royalties are not pouring in by the hundreds of millions in three years you will come to accept that IDC was not everything it was cracked up to be.
