The semi industry as a whole is moving to higher densities and larger wafers. (I'm not sure, but I think Samsung is already producing RDRAM at 0.18 mu, with plans to go even smaller). They all may scale about the same.

And with regards to testing and packaging, aren't these issues being effectively addressed by the likes of Kingston and others?

Yes. Don't know the comparative yields or labor cost's, though.
