That's not what my government tells me in the CPI? Are you suggesting that by sampling average rental prices in metropolitan areas, on units that are usually restricted by RENT CONTROL laws from rising in rent more than 1 or 2 percent a year, the official numbers may be not quite the whole truth? :)

Hmm, come to think of it, that is a pretty good technique to hide inflation. Make raising rents more than 1 or 2 percent illegal, then change the sampling technique so that you only sample units that are rented, not purchased. That way you can basically WRITE INTO LAW how much you wish inflation to rise per year. :)
