Re: Ruiz must be butter cause he is on a roll

survivin,

I like this quote the most:

"I'm glad we're doing it now (using copper), because we're learning a lot," Ruiz said

From the time I joined SI I've been stressing that even though AMD wouldn't see any immediate benefits from copper, the learning experience would pay off in the long run. It's good to see Hector back up what I've known for a long time.

I believe going forward to .13um on copper, AMD will have it MUCH easier.

Thread, Intel has employed some use of low-capacitance dielectrics in its 1GHz Pentium III chip (from the ZDnet PC expo article linked to in previous posts)

To what extent, if any, does this statement imply that Intel's 1GHz production does not use the same FAB / line / process as the lower-speed parts? (Assuming the lower-speed parts do not use these special dielectrics)

Would someone with more knowledge about manufacturing comment?

Does this imply the 1GHz P3's are special Frankensteins born in some lab, instead of top-bin offspring of the normal production lines?

Doug

After reading the two great articles posted here this evening, I am beginning to think that Corvette may use SOI.
