Too bad the article does not tell of the types of radioactive elements that were found, and so there exists the uncertainty, in the reader's mind, of whether a nuclear or thermonuclear weapon was used (or a combination of the two). My guess is that multiple warheads of the two types of weapons were used.

Because the would-be victims prayed in the temples for deliverance, I suppose they had had ample warning regarding their imminent destruction. I would be interested to know whether the people believed (or were led to believe) they were about to be destroyed by divine wrath or whether they knew that a technically-superior superpower was about to annihilate them with a secret weapon.
