ak, I like the low tech projects. In fact, I am gonna finish up my low pressure irrigation system today. Very gratifying, but I need a nice cigar.

Reason for spelling of "fibre" in Fibre Channel

Fibre Channel can be operated over either copper or optical transports. The developers of the FC standard chose the spelling "fibre" rather than "fiber" in order to subtly make the point that it wasn't a fiber optics-only spec. (At that's the way it was explained to me at a fibre channel conference I attended a year or two ago.)

P.S. The main reason to choose optical over copper is that optical allows much greated distance between nodes.

>>The term "fibre" in FC is a little language trick because the FC model is described as a "fabric" made up of "fibre". Thus the name of "Brocade" and its "Silkworm" switches. Confusing to lay people, but cute.<<
