Eric, Excellent points!

As a bottom fisher (part-time!), I appreciate your comments. I think your point-by-point questions are valid.

I just want to make money. I don't feel that Amazon offers that opportunity right now. In summary I won't buy Amazon, right now, due to: 1) low gross margins, 2) non-existent barriers to entry, 3) a personal preference for barnesandnoble.com, 4) a lousy balance sheet, 5) a poor-performing industry (currently), 6) a personal distaste for the retail industry, and 7) a decreasing revenue growth rate.

If I were on the verge of purchasing Amazon, your comments would make me think twice! Thanks again.

10. Isn't Amazon just another low margin retailer, but with an internet presence only. In fact, isn't Amazon just an electronic mail order firm?

One can be bearish or bullish on Amazon. The point above still stands. Amazon has a large catalogue and people order from it. Instead of paper is on the web. There is no difference on that regard.

Their competitive advantage might come from not having to print the catalogue, or having a larger selection, or being able to serve an international audience. Still, that only makes them a cheap-catalogue, large-selection, international mail order firm.

If their expansion into auctions had been successful, then one could claim that they are more than a mail order firm. But they tanked big time...

Eric: A wonderful summary of two years of discussion -- never stated more clearly than you just did. Hope all is well with your business.

Aloha

Eric, them are fightin' words, buddy. To the new econ winners, that is. Unfortunately for the longs, that about sums it up. I hope Randy reads your post, while he's still ahead.
