That's how wars start, and I would rather have the current system as it is, rather than have to fight off a bunch of starving Asian nations who feel they have nothing to lose.

WE are not immune to loss ourselves the more global we become the more we feel the impact of the conditions of the rest of the world. If a government decides they won't print and the value of their dollar increase that could also increase some of our corporate profits generated form elsewhere.
On the same tune if that were to occur, at some point, at the rate we are printing it could end up our dollar was akin to the mark in Germany, meaning a truckload we take to the store.

Ron,

I can't say I am correct on this point, but my guess is that there would be offsetting forces at work that would keep the dollar in equilibrium before any serious problems occurred overseas.

One obvious one would be that as the dollar soared, corporate profits in the US would come under pressure and the economy would slow. Right off the bat that would make foreigners less attracted to the dollar. I think there would be other checks too.

I'm simply one of those guys that believes you do much more damage interfering with market forces than not. And I consider central banks as not part of a free market system since money comes into the system based on the judgement of a few people that might have it wrong.
