Telesp Celular To Offer Wireless Web Svc

NEW YORK -- Telesp Celular Participacoes S/A's (TCP) unit Telesp
Celular S.A. will offer wireless Internet access service in Brazil based on
Wireless Application Protocol, or WAP.

In a press release Tuesday, the company said the service will be called
"WAAAP - The Pocket Internet."

The company plans to offer the service to its code division multiple access,
or CDMA, network in July.

WAP-enabled Handsets are priced starting at R$399.

Telesp has invested about R$100 million to launch the service and expects
to have more than 500,000 subscribers by December.
