PRI Automation Reports Third Quarter Fiscal 2000 Results
Strong Performance Produces Record Results in Bookings and Revenues
BILLERICA, Mass., July 25 /CNW/ -- PRI Automation, Inc. (Nasdaq: PRIA - news; TSE: PRJ - news), a global leader in advanced automation systems and software to the semiconductor industry, today reported financial results for the third fiscal quarter ended July 2, 2000.
Net revenues for the third quarter were $88.9 million, a 16% increase from the second quarter of fiscal 2000 and a 158% increase from the year ago quarter. Net income for the quarter was $9.8 million, or $0.38 per diluted share, a 69% sequential increase over $5.8 million, or $0.23 per diluted share reported in the previous quarter. In the third fiscal quarter of 1999, the company reported a net loss of $13.1 million, or $0.60 per share.

"This was our best quarter ever for both revenue and bookings," said Mitch Tyson, president and chief executive officer of PRI Automation. "We booked $126.3 million of new business, an increase of 20% over last quarter. Our Factory Systems Division received its first order to provide factory automation solutions for a 300mm production fab. Our Software Division turned in its best ever quarter receiving 12 new license sales, seven for MES and five for FAbuilder, its tool connectivity solution. And, our OEM Systems Division turned in another record quarter with an 18% increase in revenue over last quarter including gains in both vacuum cluster platforms and integrated front ends."

"The transition to 300mm manufacturing continues to unfold and we are experiencing 300mm orders across all three of our divisions," stated Tyson. "Our current record backlog and positive business outlook places a continuing emphasis on enhancing our overall production capacity. We are increasing our efforts to expand both our internal manufacturing capacity as well as outsourcing capabilities during our fourth fiscal quarter."

Tyson continued, "Based on the feedback we received from customers who attended Semicon West this year, we believe customers are continuing to recognize the value PRI brings to improving overall factory productivity with our broad range of integrated systems and software.
