KT Freetel launches Korea's ninth wireless mega-portal
Korea Telecom Freetel (KTF) Tuesday launched a wireless mega-portal, bringing the country's top nine Internet portals to its PersNet, a wireless Internet brand.

Yahoo Korea, Chollian, Daum, Unitel, Lycos, Hitel, Netian, Shinbiro and Freechal yesterday signed an agreement with KTF, bringing the near 500,000 PersNet users to the portal companies and content providers (CPs).

Starting next month, PersNet users will be able to access their favorite portals through wireless handsets by logging on to the Internet World site on PersNet menu. For example, a Daum's Hanmail user will be able to retrieve and send e-mail on the wireless handsets using his existing Hanmail account.

In addition to the e-mail service, individual portals will make their contents available on the wireless Internet service as well, greatly boosting KTF's content service, which has been rather lackluster compared to its rivals.

KTF said last Tuesday's announcement will be followed soon by similar arrangements with 50 other portals and CPs, including Hanmir, DreamWiz and Auction. "When Internet World is completed sometime in September, we would have drastically changed the competition in the wireless Internet market," said Won Soo-il, the KTF official in charge of PersNet business.

Burst Wireless to use uses excess spectrum in PCS bands to provide portable Internet access to laptops
internettelephony.com

I didn't know the PCS carriers had excess spectrum. They dont say what air interface they plan to use but if they need 10Mhz blocks then I doubt it is Qualcomm's narrow band CDMA. I doubt if they will find lots 10 Mhz blocks of PCS spectrum in major markets just waiting for them and available cheap.

>> Too bad Qualcomm did not make it back to its 'natural home' <<

Jeff, what do you mean by its 'natural home'? When I first started following this stock in 95/96 QCOM's 'natural home' was in the 40's ( pre -split ). Are you looking for the 40's as an entry point?
