Certainly not new to me. But since you mention it, could it be that this is the real last bastion that AMD has to take on?

Probably, in the microprocessor based products area, although Intel seems to keep ahead of AMD in mobile. Getting qualified for servers at IBM, CPQ, HP and Dell will be a heck of a lot longer row to hoe for AMD than it was for home use. Corporate desktops would be the in-between step, which would be next for AMD, IMO.
