it's called a dead cat bounce. they will whack it back down from the 290 level. that seems to be the critical level for most of the gold loan shorts, followed by 310. look at the XAU...it's not exactly enthusiastic about this move in the PoG. it rises reluctantly on PoG upticks and quickly falls on downticks. on the daily it keeps making consecutive lower highs in reaction to every PoG rally that materializes.
unless the XAU starts to lead there's not much to get excited about quite frankly. otoh if the XAU were to close 4 or 5 points up today, we'd have to assume that this might be the real thing....

Yes, I overheard a rumor here in Denver live twice, yesterday that ABX was doing (at least some) unwinding. .
