SGI is supposed to be transitioning it's ccNuma architecture to Itanium. As regards clustering. SGI sees beowolf clustering as a possible threat to traditional high performance computing market but believe the jury is still out given that there are no production systems only experiments and there are large software issues. They are watching it carefully though and are looking at 32 node/2048 IA-64 CPU Linux cluster. They still believe ccNuma architecture will offer better performance per CPU count due to lower latency, etc. but believe clustering may provide a 2nd tier lower price/lower performance per CPU count alternative.

SGI has a 64 node/128 PIII CPU Linux cluster operating at Bristol Myers using their 2 way 1200L server. Rich
