Cowering cavemen afraid of life and the unknown seek a "savior" -- others who accept the universe and all its wonders feel at ease with the unknown and accept the ups and downs of life and death itself as just one more great adventure.

Religion still hangs on because of fear and irrational people who face the same losses and trials that people have for thousands of years, but like an infant discovering fire for the first time, ask "why?" when it burns their hands.

As I have said before on other threads, Karl Marx was correct in one observation he made, "Religion is the opiate of the masses."
