In this list, which includes some very small "nations" the population of 10 "nations" ranked above the U.S. was topped by Singapore with 3.5 million. 8 had populations less than 1 million. Looked at different ways, the combined populations that have a better life expectancy than the U.S. is approx. 460 million. The U.S. ranks #2 of the 10 most populous nations, #4 in the top 20 and #6 in the top 30.

cheers,
gordon

edit: only Israel and Kuwait had both fertility rates and life expectancy rates that were higher than the US. Not sure what conclusions to draw, it just seems interesting.
