Pravin,

Wow they sure aren't being timid about their interpretation of that 12 to 1 GHz shipping ratio claim! Do you have a link for this article? Thanks for posting.

By the way I haven't seen this posted yet:

Pravin, I like the "Athlon Ultra" name announcement, but shouldn't AMD one-up Intel and announce a date when the name for Sledgehammer will be announced?

AMD to Announce Name for 8th Generation CPU in Third Quarter

In a surprise annoucement, AMD has decided to name its new Eighth Generation CPU, with the code name, Sledgehammer, in the third quarter of 2000, beating Intel's release of its seventh generation CPU, Pentium 7-3.

According to Drew Prairie's replacement, Lapita Ruiz, the name will definitely NOT be SLUDGE-HUMPER, as had been expected by Intel, but it will truly be an eighth generation name. Reports labelling it the "Jereon" were also stated to be incorrect. "It sounds a little too much like 'Geritol', but we might still use that name for the low end version," said Mrs. Ruiz, "but more people favor the name, 'Hectium.' Its still not decided," she said.

The new CPU will run at 2 GHz, and since it is the world's first 64 bit CPU designed for personal computers, its BIT RATE of 128 BILLION BITS PER SECOND will be four times faster than current high-end CPU's. "We think the fact that our new CPU will process more bits in one second than there are galaxies in the universe is highly, significant," she said, but did not explain why.

In a related development, AMD, announced that it had trademarked the names of all the rivers, streams, brooks and sewers in Oregon. "This will prevent Intel from even announcing the beginning of their eighth generation CPU effort, and guarantee that AMD will win." said Mrs. Ruiz.

Isn't Vancouver a strange place for the origin of an AMD press release, and why were they not named after an OR river...that's what Intel does.

Do you work for AMD?<g>
