So what's in a name?

MR is a director of the new Perkin-Elmer (PKI), which used to be the former EG&G Corporation (EGG) until September 1999 when it closed its May 1999 acquisition of the Analytical Instruments Division of the original Perkin-Elmer Corporation (PKN) and the rights to the Perkin-Elmer trademark. By then the original Perkin-Elmer had already reorganized itself as the PECorporation focused exclusively on life sciences with two operating businesses - PE Biosystems (PEB) and Celera Genomics (CRA). The PECorporation and PE Biosystems were recapitalized and merged last 2/2000 as PEB so PEB is now the parent company of CRA.

Interestingly, PKI is a Massachusetts company with $1.7b in revenues derived from four lines of businesses: Fluid Sciences, Instruments, Optoelectronics and Life Sciences.
