Net stocks took a beating during the Mar-May sell-off in the tech sector... No sub-group was spared as investors whacked the hot B2B stocks as badly as the already out-of-favor etailers... But events over the past few days underscore just how difficult the months ahead are likely to be for many of the second and third tier B2C and B2B names... The key event was the Street's abandonment of Amazon (AMZN)... If analysts now question the future of AMZN, what hope does a Cyberian Outpost (COOL) or iVillage (IVIL) have? And with access to capital now shutting down, more and more fringe companies will either have to slash workforce (making it difficult to achieve growth targets) or be forced out of business... As these companies reduce their expenditures on services and equipment, many of other tech companies will also begin to suffer... That's not to say that all Net companies should be treated equally, but investors no longer willing to throw money at good stories(stock w/story)... Companies with scalable models, near-term earnings visibility and ample cash holdings will continue to do well... Those without, which unfortunately makes up the majority, will continue to underperform...

Make a separate Internet page in the weeks to come in an effort to provide more comprehensive coverage of this very diverse industry.
