DMG,

Very good post, Dave.

<< FWIW I don't agree with many Q loyalists who state over and oevr how Nokia is being stupid, WCDMA is terrible, this whole line >>

This particular Q loyalist agrees with you on this point.

DS is a fact of life. The majority of the worlds carriers that license new spectrum will build out with it.

UMTS/UTRA (WCDMA) 'Release 99' is in specification, and UTRA DS specifications will evolve just as cdma2000 MC specifications will evolve.

Just as CDMA worked (took a while to work out some kinks and a while longer to get to data at any speed, much less 14.4, than 64 kbps) UTRA DS will work (and it will take some time to work out the kinks and get to 3G data rates.

UTRA DS and MC will in some cases coexist on the same network using a bridge and hooks and extensions.

For these reasons as harmonization goes forward it becomes imperative that the issues you address are resolved.

It is noteworthy that Nokia is doing the network planning under a services contract for SK Telecom who will operate the first 1xMC network in the world.
