I use java apps a plenty with no reboot required.

Woulda thought it had more to do with the VM than the kernel.

Prognosticator,
Who's Java VM? It is the case that applications leaking large amounts of memory can slow down a system quite a bit. The only way for an operating system to safely deal with this is kill the process at some point. Rather than reboot, you should be able to use the task manager and kill the process to reclaim the memory.

Seriously, I am curious who's Java VM you are using.

Thanks,
Mike
