Gore wised up, said he wished Elian and dad had stayed together here.
Bush didn't, he said it yesterday, again. Makes you wonder about his smarts.

At least Gore removed his foot from his mouth.

Bush said Elian's case should have been in Family court.

When the case was still at issue, I grimaced at Dubya's and Al's statements about family court, but I figured that they were just pandering. Now that the case is concluded, Dubya is still talking about family court, which leads me to
wonder if it was pandering or something worse. While I'm not fond of pandering, I recognize that such is the stuff of politicians so I don't get too exercised over it. Family court in Miami would probably have produced a more satisfactory outcome for his constituents.

I find it quite disconcerting, however, that a candidate for President might have so little understanding about, or respect for, the roles and authorities of the various components of his government, such as the INS and family court. What would he do as President? Assign civil rights protection to the New York Police Department and tax collecting to the National Zoo?
