What you are missing is that there is no free money being given away on Wall Street. You can make it as convoluted as you like, but if WXYZ issues a stock dividend the price will adjust per the ratio. Here is a PR from MOT, which issued a stock dividend on 6/2/00: "The previously announced 3-for-1 stock split in the form of a stock dividend was contingent on approval of the increase in authorized shares.
