Thanks for your advice. I feel confident that like most nuts he is just being irresponsible. But I come from a strange tradition. When a friend asks for a loan I rarely cross examine him to see if he really needs it in my opinion. I just open up my purse and give him what he asks for. I have suggested to him that he undertake psychotherapy. He says when he asks a doctor for help they just sell him drugs which don't help him. Do you think I should try to have him committed and his child taken away from him? He isn't IMO a danger to himself or others so no one is going to commit him. But I think he is right that he would lose custody. I would rather spend money keeping him out of mental hospitals as long as he can function rather than trying to force him into a state mental hospital.
