PLDT TEAMS UP WITH VISA, COMPAQ AND NETS FOR CASH CARD

MANILA - Telecoms leader Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company (PLDT) and Visa International have signed a memorandum of understanding to form a joint venture company to market and service electronic cash cards in the Philippines in cooperation with Compaq and NETS, a leader of stored value electronic cash payment systems. The prepaid, reloadable stored-value PLDT Visa Cash Cards will be embedded with computer chips that store money as electronic data. The companies expect to issue up to one million cards the first year and, up to 10 million in five years.
