RE: shorting on a downtick

Is it not simpler for daytrader76 to use two accounts, and short the stock in one and go long in the other? This assumes he will want to take a long or short position eventually. Anyway, if he gets to where he wants to go short and there's a downtick, he just sells his long account.

Could you explain the purpose of the Long Put in setting up the Forward Conversion. Since being short a deep in the money Call, and long the stock, effectively lets you get short by selling the stock, why the need for the 'extra' position?
