It is not totally inconceivable that SanDisk will eventually manufacture a component of the Memory Stick or even agree to manufacture the entire product if they can do it profitably. I am still hoping that Nikon, Olympus, Kodak, Epson, Canon...will bury Sony and this will become a moot issue.

Also, MMC and SM will hopefully dominate the MP3 market. Sony is limited by its strict adherence to copyright protection and non-standard compression protocols necessitated by its ownership of various music labels.

It would appear that MMC will dominate the cellphone market based on form factor alone. Memory Stick is simply too large to be useful in this market.

Palm and Handspring (both Palm OS-based), Psion and Microsoft will dominate the handheld business. Sony will be lucky to get table crumbs here. They didn't even have a working model of a handheld at PC Expo last week.
