JDN, I hope so, just read an interesting report mailed to me by a stock picker as to why he felt INTC would move up big time in the future. His reason had NOTHING to do with technology or the things we generally talk about on this thread. Had to do with MARKETING POWER. He claims technology in the microprocessor area has reached the point of diminishing returns (ie improvements in speed etal from this point on likely wont be matched by capable software etc. for some time thus not of a big interest to buyers). HOWEVER, in that environment he felt those companies capable of Global Marketing with major name recognition would be the big winners. INTC headed his list and AMD was an AVOID.

Very interesting, and makes a lot of sense. How many users can tell the difference, in what they run on their PCs, whether they have a 733 or a 933 MHz CPU? WRT international (or national) marketing, AMD has very little clout. That theory also helps support my "AMD is late to the party" debate with Dan re servers. Relying on a company with less profitable quarters than losing ones in the last few years, for business critical applications, makes about as much sense as relying on a Briggs and Stratton instead of a GE for submarine engines.

AMD avoid, what a hoot! Who else was on the good list?
