Re: The truth about rambus...

Like most of the information distributed by Rambus, that page is a blatant fraud. SDRAM and DDR DRAM used in small devices like gaming machines and video cards are x32 (some even x64) chips. This gives a 64 bit bus from two chips (or even one). Not the 8 shown by Rambus in its mis-representation.

Why do you suppose video cards are all going with DDR? They get a data rate of 2.1 GB/Sec from two chips. Going with a 128 bit solution (using x64 chips, just now becoming widely available) they get 4.2 GB/Sec from two chips. And lower latency. And lower cost.

The additional grounding and control lines required by Rambus mean there is little of no total savings in trace count at 64 bits. But a Rambus solution would still have the added cost of building the board to 400MHZ specs instead of 133MHZ - which is why it's almost never used.

Playstation (worth a few cents a share in revenue), some network switch applications, and the Blackmail lawsuit - that's what you're betting on.

Good luck - you continue to have a chance of doing quite well. I just don't think it's very likely (but I'm sure you disagree). We'll see how it all turns out over the next few months.
