>>Thursday's Houston Chronicle had a brief announcement
that the local Time Warner Cable would finally add Fox News
Channel to its lineup effective Friday. Up until then Time
Warner had excluded FNC because of its comepetition with
Time Warner's CNN. It cited "viewer requests" as its
reason for adding FNC. I suspect that subscribers' bailing
out of cable and going to satellite also contributed to
the sudden change.

I believe that Houston was one of the cities where Disney offered free DirecTV connection in their winning battle with Time-Warner.

Something like 10,000 tried to switch. Funny but DirecTV very often offers free hookups. Either way, anyone who ever sees how well DirecTV works will want to make the switch so I'll bet the Disney action heightened awareness greatly.

Also not to be ignored is the pending merger with AOL, Time-Warner has to try to act nice for the interim.
