Samsung's handset margins are in line with NOK, actually a bit higher. Samsung, of course buys chips from QCOM even though their license allows for them to manufacture chips. NOK has a R&D cost for CDMA asics that many seem to overlook. AMD has been chasing INTC for twenty years and the gap hasn't narrowed!

>>>so saying that CDMA is cheaper than GSM for a company like Nokia or Ericcson due to royalties (CDMa = 5%, GSM = 15%) is not valid.<<<

I don't think he was saying that. The 15% rates are for the downstream buyers of the equipment. For CDMA, the downstream royalty is 5% as opposed to 15%. THAT is why CDMA is cheaper...other than spectrum effeciencies.
