I think it's possible they were right but there is an SMP bug in Athlon and that's what prevents us from seeing SMP systems. The chipsets in development are more cost effective alternatives but Athlon needs to be fixed too. Speculation on my part but reasonable.

OK. And my point is that, beyond what you're saying, a server is a computer system that requires mechanical, power, cooling, boards, drivers and other software and other infrastructure design that takes most of a year. I don't think any of that has been started for any AMD CPU chip, by any server vendor that matters.
