CDMA2000 technology service ready for launch in 2001

According to Samsung Electronics yesterday, a leading Korean telecom manufacturer, it would be possible to send data at 15Mbps using the recently developed cdma2000 1x EV technology. The company predicts that the service could be launched in the latter half of next year.

At 1.25MHz channel, cdma2000 1x EV will support data transmission at 5.2 Mbps and at 5MHz, the speed could be boosted up to 15Mbps, the company claimed.

Another CDMA technology, 1x MC (multi-carrier) that supports data transmission at 144kbps, is planned for rollout in October by SK Telecom, the world-pioneer in CDMA network service. This puts Korean companies about three months ahead of the rest of the world in the development and deployment of 1X MC network, according to industry insiders.
