BG - You sadi it it is Politics and this Korea situation is just the reason why Finland joined the EU. Just watch who gets involved and what visits are arranged and who is pleased to be receiving who and what ministers are going to see what ministers etc etc.

Loans, investment, ease of trade, contracts to be awarded etc. Forget about the cost of the overlay of a non-existant system it is irrelevant and powerless in the face of all that the EU can lay on.

Get this ...they don't want to pay the Q and Dr Jacobs and Mr Viterbi....and they talk about the high cost of the royalty to the Q while the GS royalty is much more....this is the European Establishment and they don't want to be servile to Dr J... same old story ...same old song.

Further more if DT is allowed to get its claws on Sprint then my guess is that they will drop cdma2000 in the US as well.

As it is according to the early June interview with the PCS CEO he said they weren't going to deploy cdma-2000 till Q4 2001 or early 2002.

Best regards,

L

Remember what was said in this article just a few days ago, that whatever SK Telecom did the other two might go the other way.

hk.co.kr

The controversy flared as SK Telecom, the nation's
largest mobile carrier, made known its intention to
adopt the GSM-based direct spread type for 3G
service.

To reshape the market structure, Korea Telecom
and LG Group, another bidder for the IMT-2000
license, are known to be pushing for a standard
different from SK Telecom, the dominant player
which took over Shinsegi Telecomm earlier this
year.

If SK Telecom embraces the GSM mode
spearheaded by European solutions providers,
Korea Telecom and LG Group may go in an
opposite direction to adopt cdma2000, an extension
of today's CDMA technology developed by
Qualcomm.

However, it is also possible that SK Telecom and
Korea Telecom would choose Qualcomm's
standard. Then, LG Group would be expected to
follow suit since it could not create a viable market
alone.
