Hi Frank. Each of my parents also lost everything during populist nationalizations, one in Europe and the other in Latin America.

Sometimes, I almost feel guilty to be living so securely. My Latin relatives are good, honest, well educated and hardworking people but are really lacking hope - hope that they can materially better their own lives and more importantly those of their children. My support of free-market reforms in their home country draws only riddled looks. Unfortunately, during these reforms their economy has been negatively affected by the Tequila Crisis and the Asian Flu. It hurts to see the demoralization, and these are far from being poor people by international standards.

I would encourage us all to not only appreciate the wealth of opportunity afforded us here in the U.S., but also to remain aware of the struggles of our brothers and sisters throughout the world.

Regards,
