Chris,

I'm not sure that it's possible to really communicate with you, you missed so widely the point of what I was trying to say. Your ego and lack of humility is breathtaking, and sadly, it seems obvious to everyone but you. There is no love in you, and thus your words fall not as fertile seeds, but as hard rocks, bearing no fruit at all.

Let me assure you that the disturbance you caused in me was totally impersonal, and had only to do with your narrowness of view and your refusal to even read and try to understand what is said to you.

When questioned about the Salem hangings, you quoted Exod. 22:18, thus implying that the hangings were legitimate. This is what disturbed me. You haven't bothered to respond to my question about what a witch IS, only that she'd better be put to death. Did you even THINK about the various theories presented about the derivation of the word?

Did any of Thomas White's words to you have any impact at all? It would appear not.

Sadly for you, the Inquisition was carried out by representatives of the Church of Rome, a nominally Christian religion, no matter how well-and truly-corrupted, defying the earlier Canon Episcopi that said witchcraft was a delusion. The condemning of the Salem group was led by the infamous Rev. Mather, an Anglican minister. The Scots were also involved in this damning of witches.

How else are people to judge the love of God except by the actions of His representatives on earth? To separate the evil works of man done in the name of God from God's love is almost impossible.
And I am going to be painfully "truthful" with you here, Chris. I think people are horribly challenged to find a loving and comapssionate God in your words, your thoughtless, cold leaps to judgment. No man can see into the heart of another, and no one man can ever, ever know the relationship of another with his God, despite your constant declarations that YOu can.
It is your commission to spread the Word, and to move on, not stand there and decide whether they are doing it "right". Let it go, leave the rest to God.
I wonder if it couldn't possibly be a sin to alienate people from God by your constant, discouraging damning of them. Only love begets love. You might consider the examples of some of the people here who have earned the respect of believers and non-believers alike.
But I know I waste my time. And I won't any longer.
By the way, it's Galatians, not Galations.

I don't think the Jesuits were leaders in burning witches -- a little late on the scene. They played a role in burning heretics -- a different ball of wax. Many Jesuits (and their converts) were burned themselves, especially in Japan in the 17th Century. The leaders in oppression in the West were the Dominicans, especially St. Dominic himself. The Franciscans were sometimes inquisitors, but at least in the 13th and 14th centuries many Franciscans went to the pyre themselves.
Protestants became important witch burners in the 16th century just out of the blocks. Luther expected to be burned at Worms, as had Hus and Wyclif's bones been burned. And, of course, the Puritans -- Christians after your own heart -- were active in hanging Quakers and the Salem Witches.

Chris, "shall not inherit the kingdom of God." That is quite true, and I believe it but, it says nothing about some humans killing those humans that are suspected of these sins. The verse itself, says that God will take care of the matter by not letting them into His kingdom, so you are still trying to usurp the power of God. ~H~
