US experts assess security in Sudan before reopening US embassy

KHARTOUM, July 3 (AFP) - A team of United States experts visited
Sudan to examine and assess the security situation in the country
prior to reopening the US embassy in Khartoum, Foreign Minister
Mustafa Osman Ismail was quoted as saying by a newspaper here.

The experts had talks with Sudanese officials on differences
between Khartoum and Washington, including the US accusation against
Sudan of sponsoring terrorism, and humanitarian and human rights
issues, as-Sahafi ad-Dawli daily reported Monday.

It said the experts were from the US State Department, the CIA
(Central Intelligence Agency) and the FBI (Federal Bureau of
Investigation), the newspaper said.

"The US experts got answers to all questions they raised on
American concerns over security in Sudan," Ismail said, adding that
the US experts, who reportedly arrived in the Sudanese capital on
June 22, left here Monday and would later return to Sudan.

"We have reassured them that security prevails in Khartoum as
manifested by the presence of the European embassies here," said
Ismail, adding "our religion makes it imperative upon us to protect
foreigners."

This was the first official disclosure of the American experts'
visit to Sudan.

There's a place in every oil portfolio for fabs but I believe as a group, they are riskier then the offshore drillers. With this risk comes potential for greater rewards, so it's a matter of portfolio allocation and risk tolerance. I've been of the opinion that the fabs will be among the last subsector to see investment BWDIK?

ExxonMobil Starts Production on World's Deepest Offshore Platform

NEW YORK, July 3 (BridgeNews) - ExxonMobil Corp. started producing oil and natural gas from the world's deepest water drilling and production platform, the company said today. The $1.1 billion Hoover Diana development in the Gulf of Mexico is expected to produce peak rates of 100,000 barrels of oil and 325 MMcf of gas per day.

The field is located 200 miles south of Houston in 4,800 feet of water and contains estimated recoverable resources exceeding 300 million oil-equivalent barrels. ExxonMobil is operator with 66.7% interest in the project, while BP Amoco holds a 33.3% stake.

"We are extremely proud to have set the world water-depth record for a combined drilling and production platform," said Harry Longwell, ExxonMobil director and senior vice-president.
