I tried both ways, but neither works... Actually, for awhile, my message box showed (0), but now the messages are back (the ones that I couldn't respond to). It's been rather a confusing weekend on SI. Have you or anyone else heard what it was that was intended by this "change"? I started trying to read through the Ask S.I. Bob Thread (I think that's the name of it), but I gave up as I was having trouble with the "Next 10 messages" gizmo. BTW, there's another thing that has been totally crazy. Yesterday, if I hit "Next 10 Messages" I was magically transported to the "next 10 messages" of an entirely different thread... eeekk!!!
