Europeans did NOTHING to stop Hitler, until the troops started marching into Poland. Think Neville Chamberlin, violation of the demilitarized Rhine, the sell out of Czeckoslovakia. Of course the US entered the war later, but they did lend material support to Britian before actually being in the war. After the war these same Europeans were in no position to do anything about communism having been destroyed by war. Think Marshall plan, NATO, etc. Without the US, an independent US, the world would be much worse off today. On an earlier point you made about no communists having overthrown native democracies, I think we can both agree that there have been few countries that have been "real" democracies. A small sample set makes for poor analysis. Clearly democracy stood in the way of the communist cause. A better analysis is to see how communists interact with other nations. What is better know is the use of force and intimidation by the communist to achieve their goals. Those goals were simply stated by Khurschev as world domination. The fact that communism failed doesn't diminish thier true evil intent. I'll agree that in the course of events the US made some bad decisions supporting less than worthy regimes, but you have to see the greater tyranny (i.e. the forest for the trees). When Chinese frigates start plowing the seas around the Phillipines maybe you'll understand better. Steven, I fear you have a serious anti-American bent. Some would call it the "blame America first" crowd. Before blaming the US for all the ills in the world perhaps those countries need to start looking at themselves. The fact the democracy is alive today is due greatly (some would say entirely) to past efforts of the US. I will agree that many in the US take their freedoms for granted. So it shouldn't be surprising that apparently most people think sending in agents with machine guns to settle family disputes is just fine and dandy. I wouldn't blame Cuba or any other country for that egregious act. That blame falls squarely on us and on our own government. Neal
