Re: QCOM

Eric,

Thanks for the point by point response to my muddled post coming from this muddled head <G>. You have cleared things up very nicely for me. Now I need to lock up my Q shares and forget about them for a while.

I followed the link you provided and the slide show. The data that caught me by surprise is that TDMA is slated to grow at a CAGR of 56%. They are starting from a smaller base, but still that is good growth.

Some more thoughts/questions:

1. If the CDMAOne to CDMA2000 migration path is cleaner, and 1xMC will deliver 644Kbps by end of 2001, why would a carrier outside of Europe opt to go with GPRS? A carrier with an existing GSM network will most likely overlay with GPRS. But a carrier setting up a new network would have good reason to go with cdmaOne, 1xMC etc. Especially if roaming is enabled with the new SIM cards. I guess we are talking non 3G spectrum here. Is this what you mean when you say things will get interesting next year?

2. My understanding was that HDR and 1xEV low possibility of getting standardized. I guess there are multiple standards bodies, so I am not sure which one you mean.

I tell you, QCOM is a tough stock to get a handle on. So many variables and complexities. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and insights.

Best regards,

Piyush
