i'm emphasizing this to point out that this is primarily a political decision, not one of technical merit or spectral efficiency. The Koreans want to get into the European and Japanese markets. They already have entry into the American market. The Politicians will be looking at what produces "more jobs for the boys" and exporting W-CDMA equipment to Europe fulfills that political objective.

While I strongly agree that the Koreans want to get into European and Japanese markets, and all the others that seem to be headed WCDMA's way, how do you see that as a political decision, rather than an economic or business one?

I think I understand the Korean stance on this issue, though I disagree with it. What I'd like to understand better is their recent ban on phone subsidies. Why did they do that? It hurts their own citizens who'll have to pay more for phones and hurts Korea by decreasing the proliferation of cellular within their borders.

The obvious answer is that they want to emphasize exports at the expense of local sales, but to increase foreign sales they'll have to cut prices and I don't see how that helps Korea. I'm assuming that the Mfg's sell where prices are best and would sell more internationally if they could.

Is there more to this? Does Korea want to greatly diminish internal sales of CDMA in order to have more people to sell WCDMA to? Am I just being paranoid? Help me!
