Jim, I don't know about the plane kits. Meanwhile, here's some more interesting stuff [again, without attribution but I think with good credibility].

<Wanted to let you know what I have uncovered on my end. There are several data applications announcements coming in the near future.

1. Scata boxes (these terminals will replace VSAT terminals and have several applications according to a Chicago based Sat distributor). Have confirmed from 3 separate sources that the Scata boxes are being built by Q! and will be shipping in the next week. InterSat in Chicago is targeting oil and gas industry, and law enforcement.

2. They will have external modems for laptops for data only. Target is to have available for September. Although pricing will not be at a fixed rate until October.

3. Verizon kicks off in Chicago! I am told that they will have a national promotion for GSTRF phones $700.00 with a $200.00 rebate.

4. Discussion about military contracts, and a possibility replacing black boxes on planes. This is in direct competition with Boeing/Loral/Cyberstar announcement for internet connectivity. It will be interesting how these issues unfold.

5. Confirmed that June is ahead of plan for rollout, (for what that is worth)

6. Gateway deployment going very well.

7. QUALCOMM is active with Gateways in China. Confirmed vist by QUALCOMM execs in July. I am not sure what the purpose of meeting is, but it sure is not a negative.

8. I was told that they are boosting capacity to 800 kilobits for internet using HDR. They are separating out a channel for HDR use. Similarly they can use HDR overlay on a 3G (1xrt) system. This was also discussed by CDG in Hong Kong.

9. Ramsey Su forwarded Chinese paper to ...[
Ed: deleted ]. A client of mine translated for me. All good news and focus was close working relationship with QUALCOMM. Definitely going with cdma2000 and no mention of W-CDMA. There was statement by QUALCOMM on June 14, 2000 that any delay in deployment would result in higher prices. Confirmed with QUALCOMM that no other license agreement necessary unless they choose to go with W-CDMA.

10. Hopefully there is some truth to the rumors of more financing. I do not understand (LMT) whining about getting stuck. If they really thought this through,... as an owner of Loral they should be very supportive. Instead they would rather shoot themselves in the foot by bad-mouthing LOR (hurting stock price)and making it even harder to unload their ownership stake. Bernie may take alot of heat, but I am sure glad that he is the maverick financial whiz!

I edited minor things, corrected a bit of spelling, and concealed identities, but other than that, that's the dinkum oil! I didn't even have to leave somewhat interesting stuff out. Thanks to my shy correspondents.

Readers should of course always retain a questioning attitude to such sources and seek confirmation of otherwise unknown information from other sources and best of all, from the company itself. The company should, of course, be much more forthcoming with information and bore us to death with all the details on a "HOT GOSSIP" page on globalstar.com

As we found in this very sacred unpolluted stream, we get ourselves confused even with the best of intentions - for example, thinking Globalstar LP had taken over from GMPCS whereas it was GlobalstarUSA doing the takeover of the minute marketing. So when we get undisclosed sources saying stuff, even though they are very credible, we need to be mindful of the need to dig deeper. So, anyone who is out there with a shovel, how about tossing a few scoops my way? No bull manure please...
