I never said it was limited to Europe. My point was that the only migration path right now for GSM is GPRS or EDGE, either that, or they rip out the network. GPRS/EDGE contracts are a given, until a superior, proven, workable alternative is available.

When 1x and HDR are available(2001), we will see whether this trend continues. CDMAONE carriers will double voice capacity, and provide data throughput of 144kbps with a 1x software upgrade.

Very scary stuff for a competing GSM carrier outside Europe. This is probably why Telstra and Hutchinson are expanding their CDMAONE networks, and T is trying to move straight to EDGE.
