Just remember that SSBaloney may have another agenda besides benevolently warning everyone...could it be to load up at low prices before Semicon and some great earnings reports?

Ian, others about Salomon Smith Barney, they're the same ones that erroneously nailed Compaq last week about extending the price protection CPQ offers the channel on certain products. This is related to the old bugaboo of "channel stuffing", or inventory control, implying Compaq had to guarantee prices to channel partners to keep product moving to save the quarter, I guess. CPQ immediately debunked SSB's report, saying the opposite was true, that they were comfortable with inventories, which were actually on the light side because of component shortages early in the quarter. They went on to say that this quarter would be heavily back-end loaded (I guess as component shortages lighten up). Point is that Compaq has been on the quiet side when blind-sided in the past, but this time they were all over the SSB report like white on rice. Who's going to step up to the plate on this one?

SSB sees problem 6 to 9 months out. Even the Intels, TIs, LSIs and AMATs of the world probably can't see all that clearly that far out. SSB probably found themselves too light on semi stocks, trying to create a buying op?
